[everyone-submit] SAA planning for Occupy Wall Street Anniversary (S17) - PLEASE COME

I would like to let everyone associated
with Occupy Boston know about the Sept 17 3 day event in New York to celebrate
the 1st anniversary of Occupy Wall Street (and perhaps to anti-celebrate the continuing
problems that gave birth to that movement).  (By the way there will also
be a 1st anniversary Party for Occupy Boston on Sept 30.  Details to be
determined.  Check occupyboston.org as it gets closer.)

New York is doing a lot to get September 15-17 organized. There is a great
promo video at
http://s17nyc.org/2012/08/07/s17-promo-video/

OB
is trying to get more people aware of this and even to participate if possible
both in the street theater etc. planned for the weekend and in the direct
action to close Wall Street down on Monday.  We will have (most likely
free) buses going from Boston to NYC which people can sign up for at http://s17.occupyboston.org/.
We are organizing buses for people who can go for the weekend and those who
want to go for three days.  There are also buses from elsewhere in New
England.  If you are aware of any other buses, please let us know at <s17 at lists.occupyboston.org>

We are also trying to plan what OB and other New England groups can do in the
two days of street theater, festival, education. non-conference etc. as well as
on Monday. We have already made progress on street theater, puppets, street
medics and phone calls with other occupies about the event, logistics (both
getting to NY and back and within NYC) etc.

If you or anyone is interested in joining in that planning to make it a larger
and more successful event, we are having a planning meeting at the OB Strategic
Action Assembly thisSunday August 26 at 5PM at Copley Square (most likely
on the grass).  (There will be a GA
before that at 4PM.)

We will also be having a third spokes council for S17 at which both
representatives of different interested groups as well as individuals can
attend to finalize a lot of the planning.  That meeting will be
Saturday September 8 (time and location TBD). You are more than welcome to
that as well.

I am also attaching an outreach poster for the event which people can print out
and use.  I am also attached a series of schedules, statements and the
like that you may find useful and interesting.

Hope you can get this to other Occupy people (and perhaps even beyond) and you
and/or some of the other can attend both S17 itself and these planning meetings especially this Sunday’s SAA.

ON
#S17 FOLLOW THE MONEY, ALL ROADS LEAD TO WALL STREET
Last September 17th, as
part of a wave of global protest, people from across the country raced to the
heart of New Yorks financial district to occupy Wall Street. In the face of big
banks foreclosing on our homes, killing our jobs, buying up our democracy, and
turning our environment into just another toxic asset, you showed up, and we
became the 99%.
On
September 15-17th, join us in this fight for our country this fight for our
lives.
For years, people all
over the world have been crippled by the corporate greed of the 1%. They built
their bonuses out of stolen pensions of teachers, civil servants, and our
neighbors. We pay for their welfare. They bet and borrow against our future. We
drown in debt. So who is really in debt to whom? Now our elected
representatives want us to embrace austerity work harder for less, retire later
(if at all), and say goodbye to our fundamental labor protections. Theyre
betting on our obedience. Theyre betting wrong.
Join
us for three days of education, celebration and resistance to economic
injustice with permitted convergences and assemblies, concerts, and mass civil
disobedience.
Heres
what we have planned. Get creative with ushelp
organize.
For every crumbling aspect
of our society, the cause of the ruin can be traced back to corporate greed.
Follow the money. All roads lead to Wall Street. And in the days and weeks
before (and long after) September 17th, we will be here, demanding a system
that puts the health of our communities over the profits of the 1%. We are the
99%.
Cant join us in NYC? Its
just as important that we Occupy Main Street. Pick a local target that embodies
corporate greedoccupy your state Capitol building like the people of Wisconsin,
or a chamber of commerce conference as they did in D.C. Take inspiration from
revolutionary occupations worldwide, from the railroads of India to the rivers
of the Amazon to the streets of Spain. Wall Street has occupied our entire
planet. What do you have to say about that?
There are more of us than
them and they know it,
Occupy
Wall Street

WEEKEND
THEME: EDUCATION FOR LIBERATION
11am-12pm – Welcome and Orientation activities

S15
– WHAT ARE YOUR 99 DEMANDS?
12pm-2pm
– Carnival for the 99%
This space is intended
for groups and individuals to plan games, activities and performances that
demonstrate and articulate the issues we face, the grievances we have and the
lessons from the past year. Activities are encouraged to be creative,
interactive and fun! All groups are welcome to plan activities and show up – we
welcome autonomous and spontaneous activities
2pm-4pm
– Thematic Assemblies
In the coming weeks, in
collaboration with working groups, organizations and national Occupies, we will
identify a number of key themes of the past year (debt, housing, education,
climate, incarceration, immigration, economic justice, money and politics,
etc). We will converge at 2pm and then breakout into horizontal, facilitated
assemblies around these themes. Those with expertise in these areas are welcome
to join and help enrich the discussion.

S16
– WHAT ARE YOUR 99 SOLUTIONS?
12pm-2pm
– Carnival for the 99%
Similar to Saturday’s
activities, except the focus will be on showcasing existing and possible
solutions in creative, interactive ways. All groups working on alternatives are
invited to demonstrate the work they’ve done and the exciting ideas they have
for building a new, sustainable society.
2pm-4pm
– Open Assembly
We will converge at 2pm
and begin an Open Assembly about solutions and alternatives to the current
system. The structure is open and facilitators will determine if breakouts are
appropriate in the moment.

4pm-7pm on both days is reserved for other
Occupy Town Square activities, Concerts and Direct Action trainings. More
details about these will be announced soon from the S17 convergence group.
The following events are
tied together in date, but due to the fact that the concert’s time and location
are not yet solidified, its date might even potentially shift as permits are
secured and planning continues: Spectra Pipeline Assembly, Guitarmy
March from West Village to location of concert, 3pm-7pm: Concert Convergence,
7pm: Concert, Casino Night on Wall Street, Citizens United Against
Citizens United: Corporate Marry-In Civil Disobedience.

One year ago last September we began an occupation that pinpointed the Villain in the broad nightmare that has become of the American Dream: Wall Street.
To commemorate and build upon our collective call that 'enough is enough', join us this September 15 -17 in a mass mobilization of the 99%.

Register for #S17 to plug into actions across the country and stay posted about transportation and housing for the Wall Street convergence.

We will continue to put our bodies on the line to expose how the 1% are controlling our fates; how we are drowning in loans, student debt, fraudulent mortgages. That our democracy itself is being sold to the highest bidder, while our environment is turned into just another toxic asset.

It is an uphill battle, but the very essence of Occupy exhibits how you are not a loan. Or alone. And that together, we are unstoppable.

Find out how you can pitch in on an existing project or register an action you already have in the works now.

They can steal your job, your home, your freedom, your vote. They can’t steal our ability to dream together.

Refuse to live in fear, believe another world is possible. Register and join us for #S17.
